Odin by evelmiina Odin by evelmiina
Odin and his eight-legged horse Sleipnir.
Two ravens are called Hugin and Munin (means 'thought' and 'memory' according to wikipedia). Each day Odin sends them across the world to gather information and they tell him everything they've heard and seen.

I've always found it difficult to take things from two different eras, let alone cultures, and put them together in one picture. The japanese style and coloring with a celtic god and his horse is pretty amazing. I love both forms of art and that it was brought together makes me amazed. Odin as a samurai makes it look pretty awesome and the barding on the horse is distinctly asian. The amount of action this picture displays without violence is clearly a shot at how good your art is and how deeply it impacts. I think I agree with everyone here, it totally rocks!

I think it's the most incredible depiction of Odin outward original norse'.
It gives perfectly the spirit of the ancient god, translated in eastern sensibilty and taste for ink and colors.

Fantastic style.

Reminds me of Ralph Bakshi in a strange way I can't put my finger on.

Love the colors in this -- usually the norse gods are portrayed in deep, dark colors, but I love the brightness to this!

Great drawing, it's quite dynamic and I really love the colors! Something about the drawings reminds me Hokusai, maybe because of the lines of the horse's legs, and the horse itself reminds me of the demonish creatures in some of his drawings. His gaze has something frigtening, and I love the fact that he has 8 legs!

Thanks! I really like Hokusai's works myself.

Waauuu!!! Thiiiiis has got to be my favourite illustration of Odin ever!! There's so much bounding energy, you can feel Sleipnir galloping. It's so refreshing to see a creative illustration of Nordic mythology which has an authentic feel but doesn't take itself too seriously!! Two thumbs up!! This is gonna be my desktop background for a little while I think!! :D

Not only a great use of colors, but the art style is i guess you could call it "raw." I wonderful use of varying pen strokes really defines the work.

nice. I really love how the media has all conglomerated together into this awesome gushy quiltworked visual feast. legs have a flying wing effect
really great work!

thanks! I'm glad that the legs manage to show some movement, eight legs would in reality be quite inconvenient, but at least if they look like fast, I succeeded somehow hehe

epic can't really begin to describe scandinavian mythology...I mean, Odin stabbed and hanged himself on a tree to reach enlightment, and afterwards woke himself up from the death with magicks OH AND WHILE BEING HANGED, INVENTED RUNES

Don't have a membership, so here:

The coloring isn't very Scandinavian at all, but I kind of like that. It's... refreshing. The jewelry is spot on though.

Odin's appearance is true to the myths, he very much looks the part of a tough old man, but one who is also wise.

The only thing I can find that seems out of place are Sleipnir's eyes. Was there a reason behind making them seem hollow?
evelmiina Featured By Owner Nov 8, 2009  Professional Filmographer
Thanks! I wanted to make all animals eyes hollow in the 3 scandinavian mythology-works that I've done so far, I thought it was a nice idea. Although in my previous picture (Loki and Fenrir) someone did also suggest I should outline the eyes somehow.
Torrent-Saiga Featured By Owner Nov 8, 2009
Ha ha, yeah. I noticed that after I submitted the previous statement. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, I was just curious.

Do you know if you'll be doing anymore. I study this stuff religiously, so I'm kind of geeking out over this series. <3
