Robin and Franky by evelmiina Robin and Franky by evelmiina
Sometimes I just have to flip my tables over even if I have lots of things to do just to, "I just want to draw something 100% no pressure". From 2 hours of Photoshop I made tiny tribute to One Piece, which is pretty much only shounen/adventure manga I really like. More specifically maybe, to my favorite character, which is Robin.

I picked these two because ~Kihanna likes them too, and sort of got me to remember why I like them, even if it was so long time since I'd read OP for the last time <:

I have no idea who they are but I really like this image! It seems so personal and lighthearted yet a little bit sad...And comforting. It's good to "just draw" without preassure, i used to do that back then and it helped.. I wonder where did I loose it on the way...

tämä on vaan niin uskomattoman ihana! ihan totta, kyyneleet nousi silmiin, One Piece on ollut nuorempana todella lähellä omaakin sydäntä mutta jäänyt hiukan taka-alalle tässä viime vuosina, vaikka aina palatessani siihen uudestaan huomaan ettei niistä hahmoista vaan saa tarpeekseen! ♥♥ en kestä kun tyylisi on niin upeaa ♥

Aaaa girl I still can't believe you did this. I was just about rolling on the floor when I first saw it on Tumblr. The color scheme is so pretty! It sets such a nice serene scene (oh so romantic~!). I love that robo bird too because it's so you and One Piece like at the same time. Your style just works so perfectly with these two. It's so sweet and cute and I JUST CANNOT CONTAIN MYSELF~! ♥ The moonlight, the colors, how adorable it all is.

I feel bad critiquing since you said it was just a "for fun" thing, but you do have a request critique option on. My only nitpick is I think is Robin's food doesn't quite read as going behind the wing, so it looks like her leg kind of ends as a spike. Also I'm not sure if you did it differently consciously by choice, but in Franky's character design his upper arm is really tiny while his forearm is gigantic. Me noticing that is just silly though haha.

Aw man if you were working at a larger size that's printable, is it possible for you to email it to me so I could print, frame, and put in on my "One Piece Art by my friends" wall? I could totally throw you some money too if you'd like. X) It's cool if not though.

One Piece is a special manga. There isn't anything quite like it.

Eeee thanks I'm really happy you like it <: and ah yeah, the leg! I remember erasing it but forgot to reposition it <-I forget a lot of stuff like this in art...yikes. At the time it seemed like it could be underneath, but now it looks bit awkward indeed.

NAH I don't need any money for that, not from you :D I'll fix it and send large res image to your email.

It's fun manga in many ways, and touching too. I like how Oda hides a lot of hidden gags in panels, random texts or characters (not just pandaman) especially now that I've read all chapters through a couple of times, it's so cool to always find new, tiny details. Some of the story arcs are really damn touching too, I always get bit teary-eyed reading Robin's past and Luffy & Ace story since it comes after...that...spoiler ;___; I actually included One Piece in my freshman year's presentation, where everyone was asked to tell about things that inspire you, I think the presentation title for all was "where you get your kicks", mostly because I think One Piece universe is very creatively imagined, and Oda's art style is fun and different.

AWW YAY! So excited! I can't wait, can't wait. ♥ ♥ I'm so glad pointing it out was helpful. X)

Yeah! The series is so worth reading more than once too because there's so many things here and there along the way in the background that you'd have no idea were so important. Like I totally don't remember Garp and Dragon at the beginning of the series until I reread it. Ahahaha-- I read Impel Down, Paramount War, and the Brothers flashback all pretty much in one sitting. Through those four volumes I was huuuuge sobbing mess up until the final punch of Luffy screaming "I have my crew." I think what gets me about it is not so much the death, but Luffy's reaction. He's always the unbreakable one, so seeing him crumble to pieces is horrible. The beautiful part about that whole moment is even though they weren't together, that's the exact moment where the Straw Hat crew goes from being super good friends to being a family. I'm such a big baby. I have to say I think every single arc has had at least one moment that threw me to tears. :D;; I think the only exception being Fishman Island which I try to justify as a goofy arc to reintroduce the characters. AW MAN ONE PIECE YEEEAAAHH!! It's really funny because dang most Shounen bothers me so bad, but it's somehow so universally amazing.

Robin has power to sprout her bodyparts from anywhere, so it's her hands steering the ship :---D for an adventure manga, One Piece has very fun and creatively imagined universe. I also like how it's not just general adventure and wackiness comic, but you can also find political, historical and religious themes and references from it. Usually I get tired of anime/manga in "adventure" genre, because if any genre, that's just most filled with clichés and empty visuals, so it really clings on whether I find the fictional universe interesting or not. Mature character development is instantly more interesting, too.

As downside of hundreds of chapters of on-going comic, the quality sometimes depends on whether the story arc is good/interesting or not, which is probably question of personal preference...but I've dropped One Piece few times when I've thought the arc seems predictable with too much fighting and less of plot, but picked it up again, when I've remembered the good things and questions that haven't yet been answered.

Well I read your comment and suddenly I found myself at chapter 7 in the manga :D I haven't really read manga before, I like how everything is so over the top, but less predictable than in some western comics. Wacky worlds with serious themes are the best! Thank you for showing me the light @v@

Interesting to have a watcher who's never read manga before :D it may take a while to get adjusted to visual language of manga comics, compared to western but I'm glad to hear you read it! I personally like very different types of manga so I'm itching to recommend all my favorites XD While One Piece is more "mainstream" and made to appeal to very large audience, there's really large amount of different genre of manga. Sometimes there really isn't very large gap between manga and western comics, but lot of manga is made to "look like manga" in very exaggerated and imitated manner, because it sells.

It's not so difficult to adapt to it, after all I do watch anime, so that helps :) Also, western comics really are very diverse themselves (I'm talking about European and self-published things rather than American superhero mainstream stuff) so I don't have expectations of how a comic "should" be. I appreciate diversity :) I'd love to hear more recommendations!
